Awards Ceremony

At the conclusion of the season is the annual team awards ceremony.  The awards ceremony is the opportunity to recognize every swimmer on the team. Every swimmer will receive a team trophy and an achievement medal.  In addition, recognition will be given to special awards winners.  The assignment of awards to swimmers rests with the Coaching Staff.  This is a special evening and it is requested by the coaching staff that everyone attend.

 

Workout Awards

Swimmer of the Week Kickboard

Each week during the summer one boy and one girl will be awarded the Swimmer of the Week Kickboard.  Award winners must demonstrate outstanding effort and perfect attendance for the week.

 

Team Awards

Participant Award

Every swimmer on the team who completes the season receives an award.  Participant, Bronze, Silver, or Gold times will be recognized with the appropriate award by swimmers who have met one of the minimum standard times established for that stroke.

Coaches Award

This award is to recognize swimmers for their commitment and dedication to the team and their overall attitude, work ethic and/or improvement throughout the summer.

 

OMPA Finalist

Awarded to swimmers placing in the Top 16 at the OMPA Championships.

 

County Finalist

Awarded to swimmers placing in the consolation finals (9th – 16th place) at the County Championships.

 

Outstanding Swimmer

Awarded to swimmers placing in the finals (Top 8), swimmers who swim on outstanding relays and swimmers who win individual OMPA events.

 

Most Valuable Swimmer

This award is given to the most outstanding swimmer in each age group with consideration for:

·        Attendance and Attitude in practice and at meets

·        Overall Performance in dual and championship meets

·        Other factors (versatility and leadership)

 

 Special awards

Ruth Davis Award

This award is given to the overall High Point swimmer of the year based on the top five dual meet, the OMPA Championships and the County Championships.

 

Paulson Spirit Award

This award is given to a twelve and under who demonstrates a contagious team spirit and excitement about the sport of swimming. 

 

Legend of the Year

This award is given to a male and female swimmer (thirteen and up) who has shown outstanding leadership and team qualities. The recipient must demonstrate leadership, outstanding team spirit and commitment to Sleepy Hollow.

 

Legends are Forever Award

This award is presented to all swimmers who have competed in their final season as an 18 year old. For many, this represents more than 13 years of swimming.

 

The awarding of all trophies is based on the decisions of the coaches after hours of serious thought and debate.  Because each presentation is tailored to the individual swimmer, no decision is taken lightly.  The coaches objectively evaluate the daily performance of all the swimmers and awards are given to those deserving.
